What sparked your interest in goose hunting, and how long have you been involved in it?

“My interest in goose hunting was ignited by my father, who would return home after each hunting session with tales of his exploits. As soon as I was old enough, I felt the urge to go out and pursue these birds. My dad has a very traditional approach to goose hunting, using a Seann Mann Flute and Carry Lite decoys that are 15 years old. His teachings, from setting goose spreads to understanding what calls work in different weather conditions, have significantly contributed to my development as a goose hunter.”

What are your must-have essentials for goose hunting?

“Waders top my list of essentials. I started with neoprene waders but switched to Molly’s exclusive line of Frogg Toggs, appreciating the built-in handwarmers and comfortable boots. A quality blind bag is crucial for carrying snacks and drinks. For guns, I prefer Benelli or Stoeger, personally owning a M2 and M3500, both excellent choices.”

For beginners, what Molly’s equipment would you recommend, and what advice do you have for those new to goose hunting?

“Beginners should focus on the essentials. If hunting over water, Frogg Togg waders are a great choice. A beginner-friendly gun like the Remington 870 is reliable, and using BB shot size ammunition is recommended. My advice is to keep it simple; you don’t need an array of decoys or advanced calls. Skills develop over time.”

Do you have a favorite goose to hunt, and can you share your best hunting story?

“My favorite goose hunting memory is from Thanksgiving in 2018. Despite challenging weather conditions, the family and I hunted on our farm, creating a memorable bonding experience. Teaching younger family members about hunting traditions, from techniques to cleaning and preparing birds, was incredibly rewarding.”
